Improve the quality of students' knowledge in the section "Coordination and regulation" using the Singapore PBL (problem based learning) method in biology lessons

Abstract

This study examined the impact of PBL (problem based learning) on students' academic performance in the subjectof biology. At the beginning of the school year, for entrance monitoring, students took a test in the section"Coordination and regulation", the results of which were low. Teachers have developed a special author's programfor this section with PBL elements. The study was conducted in the South Kazakhstan region at school X, 8thgrade students. All 8 classes were divided into experimental and control groups (number 97). The control groupwas trained with the traditional method, while the experimental group was trained with PBL. For the analysis, at-test for independent samples was used to compare the difference between the groups. The results showed asignificant difference between the groups, PBL-proved to be an effective method to improve students' criticalthinking and problem-solving skills
