The Issue Of Identity In The Context Of North East India: A Survey

Abstract

This paper tries to present the readers with a reflection on the identity crisis in Northeast India through the readings of Bharati Mukherjee's works.The paper expresses the issues of rootlessness and identity crisis that the people of Northeast India face.The ethnic conflict in Northeast India has a long social and cultural root.Bharati Mukherjee has honestly portrayed the confused condition of her characters,as we find in Northeast India.The variety of identity crises in her works varies across social, political, psychosexual and psychosocial domains.The Identity crisis specifically felt in Northeast India will be studied through the lens of Bharati Mukherjee.
