Policy Support as a Catalyst for Expanding Solar Power Generation: Ensuring Sustainable Growth in Renewable Energy

Abstract

Introduction: The solar photovoltaic (PV) industry is critical to India’s renewable energy future, with solar power positioned to help meet national climate goals and address energy security. Policy support plays an essential role in promoting the expansion of solar energy capacity, with India setting ambitious targets of reaching 280 GW of installed solar power by 2030. However, challenges such as over-reliance on international supply chains, volatile pricing of solar components, and the need for localized manufacturing persist.

Objectives: This study explores the crucial role of policy support in driving solar power generation, focusing on the impact of government initiatives in the Thirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.

Methods: Through secondary data and survey-based primary research, this paper statistically examines the correlation between policy interventions and solar capacity buildup, while also evaluating how policy can further accelerate sustainable growth in the sector
