The Relationship Between Trait Mindfulness, Locus Of Control, And Subjective Well-Being In Adolescents: The Moderating Influence Of Extra-Curricular Activities.

Abstract
Mindfulness, as an inner psychological state, can enhance the well-being of adolescents, facilitating competent interactions with their environment. The advantages of mindfulness, especially trait mindfulness (TM), are well documented in psychological research. Mindfulness enhances the ability to concentrate on the present moment and prepares individuals to respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively in vital decision-making and problem-solving scenarios. The Locus of Control (LC) is a construct that is frequently associated with mindfulness in various psychological discussions. Locus of control refers to an individual's perception of their ability to influence the outcomes of events in their life, distinguishing between internal factors and external forces beyond their control. Another significant construct is extra-curricular activities (EAs). Increasing participation in extracurricular activities could contribute to meeting the rising mental health requirements of children. This study examined the relationship between TM, LC, and subjective well-being in a sample of 403 adolescents residing in Bangalore (India) under the moderating influence of EAs using structured equation modelling (SEM). It was seen that (i) TM significantly influenced subjective well-being, (ii) TM significantly influenced LC, and (iii) EAs positively moderated the relationship between TM and LC in adolescents.
