Marvel-ous Linguistics: The Influence of Marvel Comics on Contemporary Language and Communication

Abstract

This research paper evaluates the massive impact Marvel Comics has on contemporary language and communication. The way characters, catchphrases, and storytelling from Marvel suffuse everyday language reveals a significantly broader cultural influence. Some of the Marvel terms that will be incorporated in the analysis are 'Hulk out,' 'Spidey-sense,' and iconic phrases such as 'With great power comes great responsibility. The use of statistical data associated with surveys and linguistic studies that aid in the analysis supports it. The surveys bring the fact that Marvel Comics has done a lot in shaping today's vernacular and communicative practices. Following from the analysis, this paper has thus been successfully able to bring out how Marvel Comics, in its movies, has not only entertained but helped in defining or shaping language and communication in the digital age.
