Wars Fought During The Reign Of Adiyaman’s

Abstract

This paper examines the largest conflicts of the reign of the Adiyamans, who were great Velir kings of the Sangam era. It seeks to learn the influence of their military activities on the political aspects of early Tamilakam. Methods: The study involves the qualitative historical approach through which Sangam literature sources are examined which include Purananuru, Akananuru, Kurunthokai, and Pathitrupathu which are verified by secondary sources of Tamil history. Literary accounts of wars and unions were interpolated to formulate war events of the Adiyamans. Results: The paper gives major battles such as Vaigai Paranthalai, Thalayalanganam, Thirukovalur, Kolli and the two sieges of Thakadur and the tactical involvement of such leaders as NedumanAnji and Ezhini. Their military power and political topicality can be seen through their ties with large dynasties and the armed conflicts with local chieftains. Conclusion: The Adiyamans played a big role in the warfare during the Sangam. Their heroism, ethical methods of war and leadership gave them a legacy that would stand the test of time in the history of Tamil people.
