Exploring the Hurdles Confronting Entrepreneurs (Farmers) in Cashew Production and Marketing

Abstract

Cashew cultivation is crucial for Pudukkottai District's economy but faces numerous challenges. This study investigates obstacles faced by cashew entrepreneurs, particularly farmers, in production and marketing within the region. Challenges include lack of modern practices, pest management, water scarcity, inadequate infrastructure, middlemen dominance, socio-economic constraints, and limited government support. Understanding these challenges is vital for sustainable growth in the cashew sector.


Methods: A descriptive research approach is employed, utilizing secondary sources and structured questionnaires for primary data collection. A pilot study with 50 responses ensures questionnaire reliability. Statistical tools like correlation and regression analyze data, aided by software such as SPSS.


Materials: Materials comprise secondary sources and structured questionnaires tailored to gather data directly from cashew farmers in Pudukkottai District.


Results: Key findings identify production, marketing, government policy, socio-economic, environmental, infrastructure, and financial viability challenges. Statistical analyses illuminate their interconnectedness, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions and collaboration to support sustainable growth in the cashew industry.
