Students’ Attitudes Vis-À-Vis Performance Towards Chemistry

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the attitudes of education students towards Chemistry. The respondents were the BSED – Science of Cebu Technological University School Year 2016 – 2017. There were faculty members of Chemistry as respondents in order to demonstrate whether their teaching approaches affect the attitudes of education students toward the subject. The study revealed that education students had unsatisfactory performance and negative impressions toward Chemistry subjects. It also revealed that they had low performance towards Chemistry competencies such as classifying, comparing, analyzing, and creating. It also showed that Chemistry teachers used multiple representations/approaches in teaching the subject in order to motivate the interest of the students towards the subject. The finding of the study exhibited that there is no significant relationship between performance and attitude of students toward Chemistry. Chi Square was used to compute the relationship between the performance and the attitudes of students toward Chemistry.
