Insights Gained from Analysing the Pre- and Post-Responsibility Reports of the Ten Largest Indian Companies

Abstract

  The research paper examines the impact of business responsibility and sustainability reporting (BRSR) on corporate financial performance (CFP) measured by ROA%, corporate market performance (CMP) measured by Tobin Q, Corporate sustainability performance (CSP) measured by CSR spending and Leadership messages for the top 10 Indian segments of global Fortune 500 companies. Data was collected during pre- and BRSR periods to measure the impact of the reporting change. We have found that the mean corporate sustainability performance as % of PBT has gone up to 1.35% post-policy period against 0.04% in the pre-policy period. The leadership (ethical) expected from the listed companies in BRSR reporting has improved and started to yield results.
